Sun Sight pro-forma. For Astro Navigation.

Product Information

Sun Sight Reduction Form Pro-forma.

The Sun Sight is the most frequently used sight.  A morning Sun Sight will give a position line which is then often ‘Run on’ to the Sun Meridian Passage (Noon Sight), which in turn is often ‘Run on’ to an afternoon Sun Sight.  This is the ‘Sun Run Sun’ that is a requirement of the RYA Ocean Yachtmaster.

Although often considered a black art, Celestial Navigation, also known as Astro Navigation, is actually pretty straightforward.  Using a sextant is simply a matter of a bit of practice. The Sight Reduction part is all about locating information and noting it somewhere sensible, which is where this helpful series of Sight Reduction Forms comes in. All you need to do then is some simple addition or subtraction.

The Sun Celestial Navigation Form is designed for use with the Rapid Sight Reduction Tables NP303. Vol. 2 (latitudes 0-40 degrees) or NP303 Vol. 3 (latitudes 39-89 degrees) previously called the Air Tables AP3270. Vol. 2 or 3 and the Nautical Almanac.

Matt Encapsulated A4 Sight form. One side has a completed example with notes explaining where the information is obtained from and how it is used.

This Sun Sight Reduction Form can also be purchased as part of the Complete Set of Eight Sight Reduction Forms.

Can be written on with 2B pencil.
