Selected Stars Sight Form
For those who have never taken a star sight, the selected stars method will be a revelation.
The planning stage of the sight will provide you with a table of seven stars that will be available for use. It also tells you which ones will give the best fix, what to set your sextant to and which direction to look in. You need know nothing about the night sky to use this method.
One side has a completed example with notes explaining where the information is obtained and how it is used.
Designed for use with the Rapid Sight Reduction Tables previously called the Air Tables AP3270. Vol. 1 and the Nautical Almanac.
Although often considered a black art, Celestial Navigation, also known as Astro Navigation, is actually pretty straightforward. Using a sextant is simply a matter of a bit of practice. The Sight Reduction part is all about locating information and noting it somewhere sensible, which is where this helpful series of Sight Reduction Forms comes in. All you need to do then is some simple addition or subtraction.
This Sight Form may also be purchased as part of the Complete Set of Eight Sight Reduction Forms.
